ST. PAUL, Minn. (January 12, 2009)   Is it worth it to accept a higher paying job if it puts you over the income limit for your child care subsidy?   Maybe a raise would mean you no longer qualify for low income housing.   Those are some of the challenges of working families depicted in Living with a Hole in Your Pocket, a video documentary that examines the policies and practices – a web of  “Catch 22’s” – that that make it difficult for people working one or more jobs to build the assets needed to get out and stay out of poverty.

Living with a Hole in Your Pocket, produced by CFED, Northwest Area Foundation and Twin Cities Public Television, received a 2008 regional Emmy Award nomination in the Topical Documentaries category for the Upper Midwest Region of the National Television Academy.  The hour-long documentary can be viewed online at  http://www.mnchannel.org/video_archive.php?video_id=13.   It is also scheduled for broadcast periodically on the Minnesota Digital Channel.

Free copies of the DVD can be ordered online at NWAF Solutions Depot   A podcast exploring the behind-the scenes work on the documentary is available at:  http://programs.nwaf.org/pr/nwaf/info/electronic.asp.
