MILLIE ACAMOVIC JOINS NORTHWEST AREA FOUNDATION AS VICE PRESIDENT OF FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION and CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

St. Paul, Feb. 1, 2007:   Northwest Area Foundation is pleased to announce that Millie Acamovic has joined the Foundation as Vice President of Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer.  She joins the Foundation from Ameriprise Financial Services, formerly American Express Financial Advisors, where she served as Vice President, Advice Services.

“We are extremely pleased to have Millie on board,” said Karl Stauber, president and CEO of the Foundation.  “Her operational experience and her people, project, and change management skills, as well as Millie’s focus on teamwork and continuous improvement, will truly benefit this Foundation in its efforts to build and run an effective organization to help communities reduce poverty for the long term.”
 
As Vice President and CFO, Millie will report to the CEO and will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of the Foundation’s overall financial and administrative plans and policies.  As such, she will be providing strategic direction for finance and administration, grants and contracts, human resources, facilities, and information and technology.  Acamovic will assist in the management of the Foundation’s investments and will act as primary liaison to the Board of Director’s Investment and Audit Committees.  Millie will also serve as a member of the Executive Team and has been appointed an Officer of the Foundation.

As VP, Advice Services at Ameriprise, Acamovic led a team of 35-40 employees in the development, training, and support of the financial planning software used by the firm’s approx. 10,000 advisors to help clients reach their financial goals.  Prior to this, Millie spent almost 18 years in the investment business, serving most recently as VP, Investment Management and Hedge Funds Operations, with responsibility for hedge funds operations, Wall Street broker relations, soft dollars and commissions management, proxy voting and corporate governance, Six Sigma transformation projects, and acting in various committee leadership capacities.

Acamovic holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Chicago, a master’s of business administration from the University of Minnesota, an NASD Series 7 license, and a Six Sigma Green Belt designation.  A native of Chicago, Acamovic lives in southeast Minneapolis with her husband, Christopher Wilson, and twin sons, Robert and James. 

The Northwest Area Foundation is dedicated to helping communities reduce poverty for the long term. The Foundation works on strategic efforts with a small number of rural, urban, and American Indian reservation communities, and the organizations supporting these efforts, in its eight-state region: Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. These states were served by the Great Northern Railway, founded by James J. Hill. In 1934, Hill’s son, Louis W. Hill established the foundation.
Since 1999, the Foundation has invested approximately $150 million in community-based poverty-reduction programs. It expects to invest at least an additional $50 million within the next three years.
