The Reverend Kevin M. McDonough Joins the Board of Directors for the Northwest Area Foundation

October 10, 2006.  The Reverend Kevin M. McDonough is the newest member of the Northwest Area Foundation’s board of directors. Father McDonough is Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia for the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis.

“The Reverend Kevin McDonough will be a tremendous asset to the Board of Directors at the Northwest Area Foundation.  His vision for helping the most vulnerable in our society coincides well with our mission of helping communities reduce poverty,” said Karl Stauber, president and CEO of the Northwest Area Foundation.

A graduate of the University of Saint Thomas, the Reverend McDonough represents the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis in various capacities including that of chief operating officer.  He currently serves as pastor at the Church of Saint Peter Claver.  A frequent speaker on theological, administrative, and church vocational issues, Father McDonough is fluent in English, Spanish, and Italian.

The Reverend McDonough was elected to a three year term during the board’s meeting in July.  The board of directors is comprised of 13 representatives from throughout the Foundation’s eight-state region.  Each member may serve for up to three consecutive, three-year terms.  Father McDonough joins fellow board members: Louis Fors Hill, Minnesota; Ted Strong, Washington; Dorothy Bridges, Minnesota; Elouise Cobell, Montana; Cornelia Butler Flora, Iowa; Humberto Fuentes, Idaho; Patricia Jensen, North Dakota; Daniel Kemmis, Montana; Nick Smith, Minnesota; Sandra Vargas, Minnesota; Elsie Meeks, South Dakota; and William Thorndike, Jr., Oregon.  The five members of the Foundation’s trustees are: James A. Dodge; Terrence W. Glarner; Linda L. Hoeschler; Dr. Thomas J. Horak; Rodney W. Jordan.
The Northwest Area Foundation is dedicated to helping communities reduce poverty for the long term. The Foundation works on strategic efforts with a small number of rural, urban, and American Indian reservation communities, and the organizations supporting these efforts, in its eight-state region: Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. These states were served by the Great Northern Railway, founded by James J. Hill. In 1934, Hill’s son, Louis W. Hill established the foundation.
Since 1999, the Foundation has invested approximately $150 million in community-based poverty-reduction programs. It expects to invest at least an additional $50 million within the next three years. The Foundation does not accept unsolicited grant requests. For additional information, visit www.nwaf.org, or call 651-224-9635.
