Communities are invited to apply for $100,000 Great Strides Award. Deadline Oct. 7.St. Paul, Minn., September 1, 2005— The Northwest Area Foundation is inviting communities from all across its eight-state region to apply for a Great Strides Award. Launched last year, this initiative rewards communities for the innovative steps they have already taken to reduce poverty for the long term. The Foundation will select up to four communities, rewarding each one with $100,000 and an invitation to share key lessons with other communities.

Louis Fors Hill and Ted Strong joinSt. Paul, July 15, 2005 -- At its annual meeting today, the Northwest Area Foundation trustees approved the appointment of Louis Fors Hill and Ted Strong to the Foundation’s board of directors. Each begins a three-year term immediately.

New Report Emphasizes the Benefits of Coordinating Poverty-Reduction Efforts ST. PAUL, Minn. (March 8, 2005) – The Northwest Area Foundation today released a study that examines the causes of poverty and reviews the programs designed to alleviate its effects on people. “On Getting Out – and Staying Out – of Poverty: The Complex Causes of and Responses to Poverty in the Northwest,” emphasizes the complexities of poverty and suggests that poverty-reduction efforts be integrated to be successful for the long term.
